Freedom 2000 Software Overview This document gives a more complete overview of the Freedom Remote and Freedom Direct software options. For more specific information about either of the two software options, or to download them these software packages, please go to either the Freedom Remote or Freedom Direct pages. Description: The Freedom Mount control software offers administrators and viewers many powerful features. The Freedom Mount software allows users connected to the internet or local TCP/IP network to remotely control the position of the Freedom Mount via a standard web browser. A small Java Applet can be embedded into a web page with other content to allow the user an easy graphical interface to control the direction of motion, size of motion, and even speed of motion. Many different users from around the world can all retrieve and be viewing copies of the page with the FreedomApplet on it. Only one person controls the Freedom Mount at a given time. Control is given on a first come basis. Once one person connects they are given control for a specified amount of time set by the administrator (default 40 sec). The user sees a small message on the bottom of their applet that is updated every second saying "Have Control for 30 sec" ".. 29 sec" " .. 28 sec" etc. If another user accesses the page that person is given an applet that says "Will get control in 30 sec" ".. 29 sec" "28 sec". If multiple people are waiting the wait times take into account their position in the wait queue. If only one person is connected then when their control time goes to 0 they will automatically be given control again for the specified amount of time. The FreedomApplet can be customized to have different color, layouts, and images used for direction control arrows. The FreedomApplet which is placed on the web page communicates with another piece of software either the Freedom Direct or Freedom Remote host solutions describe below. The host software keeps track of the various applets that are connected and places them in the correct order. The host software also allows the commands from the controlling FreedomApplet to be sent to the Freedom Mount to be executed. The administrator of the Freedom Mount is the person who can take advantage of all of the features in the host program. The host program either the Freedom Direct or Freedom Remote depending on your configuration allows the administrator to set various features. Features that administrator can set in Freedom Direct and Freedom Remote software: Default Position: This is the position that the Freedom Mount starts out in (where your webcam originally should be pointed). This is also the position that the mount automatically returns to when there are no active control sessions or when the administrator manually selects to re-orient the mount via the host program. Range of Motion Limits: The administrator can specify the limits that the Freedom Mount can be rotated. While the Freedom Mount is capable of offering close to 360 degree pan range and 180 degree tilt range through the host software the range can be limited. For example one customer chose to limit pan range to be within the 90 degree and 270 degree positions and the tilt range to be within 70 degree and 100 degree positions. (Note 180 degree, 90 degree position is straight-ahead and level). Scheduled Positions: You can set up to 8 preset positions and place your mount on a schedule by time. For example you can have preset 1 positioned to look out a window, preset 2 to look at a computer, preset 3 to look at an aquarium, etc. Then you could specify at what time(s) in the day you wanted the mount to look at the desired position. At the specified time the mount's default position is set to the desired position. Users still can move the mount within your set range of motion however the mount will start-out and return to the preset position which is set as the new default position (see definition of Default Position above). The number of scheduled position changes is not limited and can be defined to the minute level. This is also a popular feature to use when the mount is in standalone mode (no remote control enabled). Continuous Pan Option: Another feature designed for standalone mode (no remote control enabled) is the continuous pan option. Users can set the mount to rotated continuously within the defined range of motion limits (see above) and also set the rotate speed as desired from fast to extremely slow. Remote User Control Time: The administrator can specify the default amount of time that a remote user has to control the mount. This value is in seconds and normally is set between 30 sec - 90 sec depending on the traffic on the site and the function of the camera. Host Solutions Freedom Direct: Designed for situations were your Freedom Mount is located on the same machine that your WWW server where your FreedomApplet is accessed from. Runs on Windows 95/98/NT. (Linux/Unix versions planned, to be notified when available click contact us and check receive updates) Note: FreedomApplet runs on all computers with Java enabled Internet browsers (Netscape 2.0 or greater or Internet Explorer 3.0 or greater). FreedomRemote: Designed for situations were your Freedom Mount is located on a different machine than where your WWW server is. Freedom Remote allows users to control your mount by having the FreedomApplet retrieved from a proxy server on our mill-shaf.com computer. FreedomApplets communicate to the server on mill-shaf.com which relays the commands back to the computer where your Freedom Mount is connected to. Administrators are able to use a webpage login to mill-shaf.com to set the IP address of their Freedom Mount computers as well as the user control time quantum. The Freedom Remote program runs on the computer that the Freedom Mount is attached to and receives the commands from the proxy on mill-shaf.com. Freedom Remote runs on Windows 95/98/NT. (Linux/Unix versions are planned. To be notified when they available fill out our contact form and check the "receive updates" box) Note: FreedomApplet runs on all computers with Java enabled Internet browsers (Netscape 2.0 or greater or Internet Explorer 3.0 or greater).
